Things to do Before Departing

My to-do list before I leave for Japan on June 28:

1. Finish graduate school (this is hardly one item, by the way)
2. Attend Medieval Conference in Kalamazoo
3. Paris vacation w/father, step-mom, and little sister
4. Move back to mother's house after graduation
5. Unpack everything to decide what to keep/sell/donate/trash
6. Rip movies to external hard drive
7. Reconfigure "I am a graduate student and I don't care" wardrobe into "I have a job" wardrobe
8. Repack my life into two suitcases
9. Buy plane ticket
10. Buy new laptop
11. Spend as much time as possible with the family
12. Get passport!

In other words, I have an immense amount of work to do in the next eight weeks.  I must admit, I'm more than a little worried about getting it all done, but people have done it before in less time, and I'm sure I can manage.  Doesn't mean I won't complain between here and there, though.

  1. Erin! I'm excited to hear that you're coming to Koriyama--good stuff, even with the glow! :) Right now, most people are saying that the radiation isn't a big deal--prolonged exposure, esp. for young kids and pregnant women, is the biggest worry. Mothers are still talking of moving to a safer location for the sake of their kids, but most people are continuing with normal life--just without unnecessary outdoor activities, maybe.
Which school will you be at in Koriyama? Blessings on all the prep you have to do!

  2. Haidee-- Thanks! I'm getting more and more excited to be coming to Koriyama, and it's nice to hear some reassurance from someone NOT working at the school I'll be at. It's a small English immersion school for Pre-K to elementary students near the station; I'm not 100% sure on the school policy for having a blog, so I'm hesitant to say the name. I'd rather be paranoid than get in trouble later, I guess.

But thank you again, so much, for the "status update." Life is now a flurry of finishing school/starting preparing for the move, so any reassurance is absolutely lovely. :)
